Quick Tip: Make Eye-Contact on Sideline TD Plays

USA Football Staff Reports

March 28, 2008

For crews of seven on a long touchdown play -- before the official covering the goal line makes the call -- take a second and make eye contact with the trailing wing official to determine if he has spotted the runner out of bounds.

Once eye contact is made, the trailing wing can nod yes, if the runner is inbounds. If the runner was out of bounds, the short wing official should be stopping the clock while moving to the out of bounds spot.
