Got a quarterback with wheels? Have a couple of players in the backfield who don't mind showing their blocking talents? The 16 Power play is the perfect addition to any playbook at earliest levels of youth football. Here's how the play breaks down out of the T formation.
Left tight end: Runs into the secondary to block the safety to the left side.
Left tackle: Blocks the right defensive tackle to the left side.
Left guard: Blocks the defensive lineman in front of him to the left.
Center: Dashes into the secondary at the snap to block the strong safety to the left side.
Right guard: Blocks the defensive lineman in front of him to the left side.
Right tackle: Blocks the left defensive tackle to the left side.
Right tight end: Runs straight ahead, and blocks the approaching linebacker.
Quarterback: Takes the snap, rolls to his left and fakes a handoff to the left halfback. Continues to circle back around and follows the lead block of the fullback through the 6 hole. The blocks from the right tackle and right tight end create a seam that will allow the QB to run at an angle to the right side.
Left halfback: At the snap, carries out the fake handoff from the quarterback and acts as a decoy by running through the 1 hole.
Fullback: Runs at an angle to the 6 hole at the snap. Continues his run through the line of scrimmage to block the linebacker to the right side. The quarterback will be running on the heels of the fullback, and will break away from him a few yards after he reaches the line of scrimmage.
Right halfback: Runs at an angle to the right side of the tight end, ready to make a block on the approaching defensive end. The block will be made to the right side to give the quarterback space to run.
