This week's Responsible Sports Parent Tip of the Week is: "Encourage your child to act with humility and compassion, as those traits enhance performance and show true leadership."

Talking with your youth football player can sometimes be difficult. Depending on the subject, or the athlete's age, communication between parent and child is not always very clear. As a parent of a youth football player, you want to make sure your child uses his or her youth sports experience to grow into a successful adult. If we become overly focused on winning, we are likely to miss opportunities to play this important role with our kids.

The Responsible Sports Parenting Guide, developed by the experts at Positive Coaching Alliance, includes resources such as the Art of Responsible Sport Conversation between the parent and athlete and more. Conversation with your child about his or her youth sports experience is one of the single most important factors in the ability to learn life lessons from sports.Three principles that Responsible Sport Parents can apply to their conversations with their children are:

* A Mastery Approach

* Filling Emotional Tanks

* Honoring the Game

How to use these principles and more can be found at ResponsibleSports.com, along with additional resources and tools that you can apply when talking with your child about their goals and experiences, both on and off the field.

Each week, the experts from Positive Coaching Alliance provide a helpful tip for Responsible Sport Parents. Sign up to receive each week's Parent Tip of the Week.
