Week Two: International Student Program

Six members of the USA Football International Student Program (ISP) helped their prep school football teams to victory this weekend in Connecticut, Illinois and New Hampshire.

Six players from Australia, Denmark, Sweden and Germany opened their NEPSAC (New England Preparatory School Athletic Council) season with a victory. Damien Scannella (Stockholm, Sweden) made a huge impact during his first game with Kent School (Conn.), as he had three receptions for 72 yards including the game-winning touchdown.

The USA Football International Student Program is in its fourth year of giving student athletes from around the world an opportunity to play prep school American Football in the United States.

The initiative is administered jointly by the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) and USA Football and in 2009-10 featureseight international football prospects from Australia, Denmark, Germany and Sweden.

Schools currently taking part in the ISP are the Kent School (Conn.), Salisbury School (Conn.),Lake Forest Academy (Ill.) and Kimball Union Academy (N.H.).

Week Two: Connecticut

The Kent School, helped by three new ISP players from three different countries, opened the 2009 season with an exciting 7-6 victory against Choate Rosemary Hall on Friday, Sept. 25.

Wide receiver, Damien Scannella from Stockholm led the offensive attack with three receptions for 72 yards including the game winning touchdown. Scannella also lined up at free saftey.

First year ISP members Nikola Bogojevic, from Canberra, Australia, and Rafael Oehme, from Dresden, Germany, started for the Kent School at offensive tackle and linebacker.

The three ISP members will look for a second victory on Friday, Oct. 2 at home against Trinity-Pawling School at 7 p.m.

The Salisbury School opened the season with a tough 53-28 loss to Hotchkiss School despite strong performances by second year ISP members Bjoern Werner (Berlin, Germany) and Kai Brusch (Hamburg, Germany).

Werner played both ways for the Crimson Knights as he led the team with 12 tackles including three for a loss of yards. He also made three catches for 15 yards.

Fellow German Kai Brusch also contributed to the Salisbury School defensive presence as he collected three tackles and recovered a fumble.

The pair will look to help the Salisbury School to its first win of the season when threy face Avon Old Farms at home on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.

Week Two: Illinois

First year ISP member and German native Lorenz Narku Laing from Wiesbaden helped Lake Forest Academy snap a three-game losing streak as the Caxy defeated St. Francis de Sales High School 41-8 on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Lorenz started at offensive guard making multiple 'pancake' blocks to open up the field for the offensive attack.

Lake Forest will look to build on their win on Saturday,Oct. 3as they travel to Western Reserve Academy.

Week Two: New Hampshire

Kimball Union Academy opened the 2009 season with a 27-7 victory against Pomfret School with two second year International Student Program members from Denmark and Australia making their presence felt.

Danish native Robert King from Copenhagen and Australian Luke Robinson from Sydney started on the offensive line for the Wildcats during the win on Saturday, Sept. 26.

The pair will line up next on Saturday, Oct. 3 as KUA hosts Hyde School at 3:30 p.m.
