Kimball Union Academytrailed for the first time this season at halftime, and with less than a minute left in the game, the Wildcats saw themselves down 26-20 totheundefeated New Hampton School.
Second-year ISP lineman Luke Robinson from Sydney, Australia, and Robert King from Copenhagen, Denmark, played both ways for KUA who launched a deep ball from the 49-yard line with time expiring and KUA came up with the ball to win the game 27-26 after a successful PAT.
The USA Football International Student Program is in its fourth year of giving student athletes from around the world an opportunity to play prep school American Football in the United States.
The initiative is administered jointly by the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) and USA Football and in 2009-10 featureseight international football prospects, from Australia, Denmark, Germany and Sweden.
Schools currently taking part in the ISP are the Kent School (Conn.), Salisbury School (Conn.),Lake Forest Academy (Ill.) and Kimball Union Academy (N.H.).
Week Eight: Connecticut
Three first-year ISP members started for Kent School during the close 14-7 loss to Hotchkiss School on Saturday, Nov. 7.
Linebacker Rafael Oehme Rasgado (Dresden, Germany)led Kent School in tackles with eight and also broke up a pass.
Damien Scannella from Stockholm, Sweden,playedboth plays for Kent as he started at wide receiver and free safety. He made four unassisted tackles and had two catches for 10 yards.
Nikola Bogojevic (Canberra, Australia)also started for Kent at linebacker, as he recorded three tackles.
All three international playersline up for the team's final regular season game on Saturday,Nov.14 as Kent hosts Loomis Chaffe School in the "Spoon Game" - one of the most storied rivalries in New England prep school athletics.
Second-year ISP member Kai Brusch (Hamburg, Germany) and Bjoern Werner (Berlin, Germany) had strong performances for Salisbury School despite the 49-35 loss to Trinity-Pawling School on Saturday, Nov. 7.
Bjoern played both ways for the Crimson Knights as he collected three tackles and one sack for a loss of 3 yards. He also made one catch for 11 yards at tight end.
Brusch also was a strong defensive presence for Salisbury, as he made two tackles. He also rana kickoff return for 16 yards.
Salisbury School finishes the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 14 when it travels to Cushing Academy.
Week Eight: New Hampshire
Second-year ISPlineman Luke Robinson and teammate Robert King played both ways for Kimball Union Academy during the thrilling 27-26 victory over previously undefeated New Hampton School on Saturday, Nov. 7.
The Wildcats trailed going into halftime for the first time this season, but the defense regrouped and held New Hampton School scoreless in the third quarter with some key tackles in the middle by ISP member Robert King. Unfortunately, KUA was unable to score and went into the fourth quarter still trailing 12-6.
The fourth quarter was filled with fireworks as KUA tied the game with a 60-yard touchdown run, but New Hampton quickly responded with a 27-yard touchdown to go up 20-12 with a two-point conversion.
On the next possession, a KUA running back took the handoff and scored on a 75-yard run. With a successful two-point conversion of their own, the game was all tied up at 20 late in the fourth quarter.
The game looked destined for overtime, but New Hampton had other plans. On fourth and 10 from KUA's 30-yard line, New Hampton completed a pass to the end zone for a 26-20 lead with 20 seconds left in the half.
KUA then received good field position from an out-of-bounds kickoff by New Hampton.
After an incompletion and a 9-yard scramble, KUA was down to its last play. With the ball at the 49-yard line, the Wildcats' quarterback launched the ball deep toward the end zone and miraculously KUA came up with the ball as time expired to win the game and preserve its undefeated season.
Kimball Union Academy hopes to complete its undefeated regular season on Saturday, Nov. 14 against Vermont Academy.
