I received a letter from the NFL to attend the NFL Scouting Combine in Feb. 2005, despite two ACL tears. That was four months away and I had just suffered a major knee injury. I worked hard and attended the combine and participated in every drill, four months after ACL surgery.
I was a member of the Houston Texans, Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys, and I played in NFL Europe for the Cologne Centurions.
I'm now working as a social worker at the St. James Parish Youth Center, but I'm still working hard to return to the NFL.
Football taught me to never give up and always strive for perfection. Coach Monken, Coach Bates, Coach Washington and Coach Sanders all made impacts on my life by staying on me and pushing me and pulling the best out of me. They preached every day about being competitive, striving for perfection and paying attention to detail.
Football is America's favorite sport because it is so competitive and aggressive, yet friendly, as well as entertaining. God has truly blessed me, a kid from a small town and small school, who had two ACL surgeries. It's not over yet, so stay tuned for more of Jerron Wishom in the near future.
