Growing up I played football all the way thru high school. It was at a young age that I knew football was my sport. It wasn't until today as a caoch I knew in what way football was my sport.
Today in our game things were going very well and early on I wanted to get one of our players a chance to score. This year is his first year playing and he is still a little gun shy about hitting. I know he is having fun and never misses practice and this could be a great confidence builder.
So after we scored our second TD I called a time out and got the offense into the huddle. I looked at all of the more seasoned players asked them could they block like never before to let this player score. They all stepped up and told the player they were there for him and that he would go in untouched. We broke the timeout with a quick cheer of the players name. Attached is the actual run of this liitle guy scoring with some great blocking. The team part of football is what I love.
I look at wins and losses this way. If the youth players experience is right and they continue to play the next year that is a win. We do several things to ensure the experience is right for the players.
Having a great season, JD Dammeier
